TrakM8 integrates with Astro digital comms technology
TrakM8, the vehicle tracking and telematics specialist, says its systems can now integrate with the Astro wireless networking system from Motorola. It adds that since establishing this link it has already supplied over 1,000 TrakM8 Solo units to work with it. Astro is a digital voice and data radio networking system developed by Motorola back in 2002. It is similar in some ways to the TETRA trunked radio system used by various emergency services in the UK and Europe, and has been adopted by various cities and states in America, as well as in other markets. TrakM8 Solo is a low-cost self-contained tracking system offered by TrakM8, and has particular appeal for smaller fleets and/or straightforward, low-cost applications. TrakM8 says the combined Astro/Solo system will provide GPS positions and Internet packet data via a secure communications network, and adds that it is ideally suited to emergency and security services markets. Usually TrakM8 systems use GPRS to communicate information back to base.
