Wearable scanner, tough scanner from Baracoda
A wearable, automatically activated scanner and a tough scanner for arduous environments have been added to the Baracoda range. They have been developed under a cooperative deal with Txcom, a French specialist in automatic identification and wireless networks. The ScanWear is said to offer a lightweight, hands-free barcode scanning solution dedicated to order picking and despatching applications. It is equipped with a class 1 Bluetooth radio device, and its range is put at over 100 metres in free field. The barcode reader can be activated by a slight movement of the device, by light touch of its sensitive sensor or remotely. It is said to be able to perform over 50,000 reads without needing to be charged. The company says it can be removed easily from its hypoallergenic hand strap, and used during two successive eight-hour work shifts. ToughRunners is the unusual name for the other new device - a torch-shaped, rugged Bluetooth barcode scanner designed for industrial, logistics and warehouse applications. It is rated for temperatures down to minus 30 deg C. Features include an external rubber envelope and rubber-coated internal electronics, which between them allow the device to withstand being dropped on concrete from up to 1.5 metres. The water and dust ingress rating is IP53.
