Airwave rebranding underlines change in regime
Following its acquisition by Australia's Macquarie group, the TETRA-based mobile communication network formerly known as O2 Airwave is now to be known simply as Airwave. The revised branding has been underlined by the launch of a new logo, which was developed by The Partners, a leading UK brand consultancy. Macquarie says Airwave has more than 200,000 users. It is deployed by a wide range of emergency service organisations and public safety agencies including police, ambulance and fire services, the MOD, the Highways Agency and local authorities. On its acquisition from Telefonica, O2's parent company, Macquarie made a commitment to retaining the company for ten years. Airwave chief executive Richard Bobbett admits that the past few years have been 'a rollercoaster ride' for the company, but says it is now entering a new phase. 'We believe É that Airwave has a bright future in being able to provide the robust, secure and effective communications service that is needed both in Great Britain and elsewhere.'
