Cybit adds Amatics to its growing fold
Fast-growing telematics specialist Cybit Holdings has made yet another major acquisition, taking over Reading-based Amatics, a company which, in addition to its vehicle tracking systems, works in the fields of marine economic exclusion zone (EEZ) management and private mobile radio. Cybit says a particular attraction of Amatics was its presence in the utility services and local authority markets. Previous acquisitions have similarly strengthened its presence in key vertical markets or technologies. They include Trafficmaster (Web tracking) in 2002, mapAmobile (phone-based tracking) in 2004, Bluefinger (maritime and vehicle tracking) in 2006, and Thales Telematics (high-accuracy and standard vehicle tracking) earlier this year. We understand Amatics' management team is joining Cybit, which is now one of the UK's leading players in the telematics business. It is said to be responsible for around 40,000 installed units operated by some 1,600 customers. Among the higher-profile examples of these are Coca Cola, Alfred McAlpine, Marshalls, SIG, May Gurney and Interserve.
