Free mobile mapping service goes live
A formal launch has been given to amAze, the free mobile phone-based mapping and navigation system for mobile phones, which was announced by Israel-based developer LocatioNet earlier this year (m.logistics, issue 27). The service offers users of Java-based mobile phones satellite images, maps, route-planning, weather forecasts and local search information from anywhere in the UK. An additional voice-guided navigation feature can be accessed with an external Bluetooth GPS device or on phones with a built-in GPS. The service is paid for by discreet advertising, which may include facilities with location-based relevance.
