Glacier ruggedised computers offered by Lamerholm
A new name in the UK's mobile and industrial computer market is Glacier, an American manufacturer based in New Hampshire. Its range of truckmount, tablet and handheld PCs is now being offered by Lamerholm Electronics, which has been appointed an authorised distributor. The Glacier range includes stylish and well-specified units running under industry-standard operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows CE.Net and Windows Mobile. Its most recent development is its Magnum, an in-vehicle computer range designed for emergency services, and equipped with a 12in sunlight-readable monitor and powered by a 600MHz Celeron or 1.4GHz Pentium M processor. The Glacier range also includes the Falcon series of rugged handheld computers, developed by PSC (now part of Datalogic) and offered by Glacier under an OEM arrangement. Lamerholm is a specialist in industrial safety products - notably embedded controls and sensors. It produces the ShockLog range of shock, vibration and environmental sensors, which include temperature sensors and accelerometers. The offer of a comprehensive ruggedised computer range extends Lamerholm's capability significantly. The company says it is specifically targeting warehouse and logistics markets, where there is a growing demand for computer systems that can withstand harsh industrial environments.
