Tach data downloads for small fleets
A neat downloading system to capture data from digital tachographs and transfer it to a PC for analysis and archiving has been launched by Siemens VDO under the name TIS-Compact Plus. It costs £395. There are two components in the package - a USB-powered downloading device, and the PC software to handle the resultant data. The USB-powered DownloadKey, as it is known, plugs directly into a tachograph to capture its data (from both driver card and built-in memory, if required), and can then be plugged into a PC to upload the data to hard disk. It draws power through its fast USB 2.0 interface, so no separate power supply is required. The software enables fleet managers to view data such as mode activities, events and faults and speed values for the previous 24 driving hours. It can authenticate downloaded files, remind the user to download, and produce speed graphics of the last 24 hours of driving time. It can also be upgraded to link to the full TIS-Web analysis and archiving service.
