Mobile management for hauliers from Com-Unit and Momote
A tracking and mobile management application aimed particularly at the haulage market has been launched jointly in the UK by Com-Unit and Momote. By working together, the two companies are able to offer both the software itself and also the wireless infrastructure to support it. Com-Unit, a Dutch software house, specialises in developing stable, affordable and scalable standard management solutions for the transport sector, while Momote's expertise is in its mobile solutions development, deployment and management toolset, the MX Platform. The application is said to works across all platforms and on all mobile devices. It uses GPS/GPRS communications and tracking technology, allowing pick-up instructions be despatched direct to delivery drivers, and drivers to send back data such as proof of delivery signatures. The two companies see the system as appealing particularly to haulage operations in which vehicles are hired or subcontracted, since the PDA-style handsets can be transferred easily from one vehicle to another. One of the selling points for the service is speed of implementation. Momote says its MX Platform speeds development and deployment, and the whole system can be up and running within 20 days. Early users include two Dutch operators, Peeters Vervoerscentrale, which has deployed the solution to 25 of its delivery vehicles, and De Klok Logistics, which is putting it in more than 200 vehicles.
