Navteq map data to be offered in Oracles Spatial 11g format

The Navteq range of digital road and street maps is to be made available in Oracle Spatial 11g coding format. This should ensure that the data is used more widely in future in back-office applications based on Oracle technology.

The Spatial 11g database is said to be the only one of its kind designed for 'grid computing'. This is not a mapping term, but one which describes a method of delivering very large datasets on a low-cost grid of industry standard storage systems and servers.

Oracle says its Database 11g delivers superior performance, scalability, availability, security and ease of management.

Navteq says it has worked with Oracle to ensure that its map data fully support the extended data schemas in Oracle Spatial 11g in Europe. This includes its line of real-time traffic products, which takes in Navteq Traffic Patterns and the new Navteq Transport.
