Nokias most advanced tablet computer is rolled out
Fresh from Nokia - a device that isn't actually a mobile phone, though it has the potential to serve as one. The company's N810 Internet Tablet, in the same way as its predecessor N800, is what it says - a small portable computer, complete with TI 400MHz processor, 128MB of RAM and 256MB of flash memory, and up to 2GB of internal memory. It runs under the open-source Linux maemo operating system. The display is a 4.13in WVGA with an 800 by 480 pixel resolution. And of course there's a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Browser and email support is built in. It may not be a phone, but you can use it as one by means of its built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connectivity and Skype, or in conjunction with a mobile phone via Bluetooth. You can also use its built-in GPS receiver to find locations, or upgrade to full satnav with Wayfinder software (see Products and Systems, page 29). There's an integral VGA camera, and Nokia has combined business capability with consumer appeal by providing MP3 music playback (via included earphones).
The expected US price is a fairly steep $479. We didn't have UK prices when we closed for press.
