Satnav from ALK enhances Cybits job management functions
Satellite navigation is now offered as part of Cybit's mobile job management and allocation package through a deal struck by the company with ALK, the developer of the Co-Pilot satnav system. Under the partnership arrangement, CoPilot functionality has been built into Cybit's Fleetstar-MRM solution. This as a hosted fleet and asset management solution that also provides functions such as job allocation and despatch. Information is transmitted wirelessly between a Web-based back-office system and PDAs or other handheld terminals carried by mobile staff, and vehicles are tracked by means of a small in-vehicle GPS unit that transmits data to Cybit's online control centre. Cybit says the satnav functionality allows drivers receiving job instructions on their mobile units to request a route to the next destination, and receive this on the unit along with maps, directions and live traffic updates. The satnav capability is said to be fully integrated into the system, making it possible to provide seamless access to the new features. Among them is the ability to calculate estimated arrival times at each call in real time. This in turn provides information with which the operator can manage customer expectations, as Cybit puts it. Chief executive Richard Horsman says Cybit maintains an open approach to the telematics market. 'We have developed a number of best-of-breed partnerships throughout the past couple of years, all to ensure that the solution we can offer to our customers has the functionality that they need.'
