Swift and sleek on scanning apps
The latest variation on the range of handheld terminals from Hand Held Products is its Dolphin 7850, a modern-looking unit aimed at scan-intensive environments such as found in retail and warehousing applications, shipping and receiving, order picking and cross-docking. It has an integrated pistol-grip handle and large upward-angled colour display for easy viewing during scanning and data entry. Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0 (a Hand Held development) allows fast, omni-directional scanning of all barcodes, plus digital image capture and device configuration capabilities. Reflecting its advanced design, the 7850 features an Intel PXA270 processor rated at 520 MHz, and runs under Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0. A Wi-Fi certified 802.11b/g wireless receiver is integrated into the unit, which supports advanced wireless security standards such as WPA and WPA2 Enterprise. On the performance front, the environment rating is IP64 rating, and the unit is said to have been tested to 5ft drop specification and to withstand more than 2,000 1m tumbles. The unit has Shift-PLUS Power Management, which is said to allow continuous scan-intensive RF applications for ten hours or longer.
