Aerial imaging brings Navman tracking to life
Users tracking vehicles with the latest version of the Navman Wireless tracking system, OnlineAVL2, can see their locations on aerial photographic images as well as conventional maps. The system harnesses Microsoft Virtual Earth mapping to deliver this new-look display, which EMEA vice president Tony Neill says has been two years in development. Users can zoom in on vehicles, using pop-up boxes to display information about them, and at the same time see their locations in the context of the broader geographical area on a traditional vector map in the corner of the same screen. Neill says the development is in part a response to user feedback indicating a desire for this kind of capability. The photographic imaging is just one feature in range of new elements in Navman's updated tracking system. Other developments include unlimited two-way messaging to one, some or all vehicles; integrated satnav; driver ID technology to monitor vehicle use; flexible geofencing; and seamless integration with other technologies.
