Dolphin handhelds gain integral GPS

Integral GPS is now available on the Dolphin 7900 range of portable computers from Hand Held Products. The range already comes with a variety of connectivity options including wireless networking and full GSM/GPRS capability, so the addition of GPS can turn them into self-contained navigation devices.

Hand Held says the development is ideal for transport, field mobility, home delivery and parcel delivery applications. It says the high-performance GPS architecture provides fast and accurate location-based information for navigation services, mobile asset tracking and documentation of field service activities.

The 7900 retains all its existing functionality, including Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0, which is used for reading linear and 2D barcodes and for capturing digital images and signatures.

Significantly, Hand Held says that thanks to its Shift-PLUS power management system, the 7900 can operate for more than ten hours between battery recharging, even with GPS and GPRS elements running continuously

The company says the addition of GPS means no sacrifice the unit's reliability or IP64 sealing against rain, dust and dirt.
