Jeffreys tracks idle running and cuts emissions
Among benefits cited by Jeffreys Haulage Company of Swadlincote, Derbyshire from fitting a tracking system from Masternaut in its vehicle fleet, the company says identified inefficiencies cased by stationary vehicles running their engines unnecessarily, and reduced fuel costs and carbon emissions. 'Even seasoned drivers were shocked by the number of hours they were letting their vehicles idle,' says group operations and customer services manager Steve Batkin. 'On average this was as much as eight hours in a week. Considering drivers are working an average of 240 shifts a year, this idling time can have big implications for fuel costs and emissions.' The company now produces charts showing its most fuel-efficient drivers, and says this is helping to encourage driving style improvements throughout the team. 'A lot of bad driving practices have simply stopped since we implemented Masternaut,' Batkin says.
