Smallest and lightest LXE handheld so far
LXE has launched what it describes as its smallest and lightest mobile computer so far. Its MX8 rugged handheld computer is designed particularly for use in in-store and backroom data capture applications. The unit is just 19cm long and weighs only 370g. It has a bright quarter VGA LCD touch-screen display, and has backlit keys to help visibility in sub-optimal lighting conditions. Scanning options include standard-range scanner and 1D and 2D imagers. The processor is a powerful 520MHz version of Intel's XScale range, supported by 128MB of SDRAM and 128MB of flash memory. There are options of a 128MB, 512MB or 1GB mini-SD memory card. The operating system is Windows CE 5.0. For networking, 802.11b/g and Bluetooth wireless connectivity is offered. Strong play is made of the fact that MX8 is a multimodal device. It comes 'voice-ready' out of the box, complete with LXE's ToughTalk voice recognition technology and noise-cancelling techniques. Water and dust proofing is to IP54 standard, and vibration testing has been based on MIL STD 801F.
