Sweepers tracked

A hundred and eighty self-drive road sweepers, gully tankers and JCB telescopic forklift vehicles are being fitted by vehicle hire company Kent Sweepers with a vehicle tracking system from Digicore that monitors not just the motive vehicles, but in some cases also the power take-off equipment attached to them.

The company plans to monitor the precise status of its road sweepers in the field. Sensors fitted to the hopper, belly brush and gutter brush will provide access to detailed operating data including brush and tipping movements, providing greater visibility and control over active units.

Kent Sweepers will display key information locally on depot workstations and centrally via a plasma screen at its national call centre in Milton Keynes.

The company says that an added advantage of the C-track system is that it will contribute to a programme of 'green' initiatives, offering new insight into the environmental impact of its vehicles and offering a new way of reducing levels of harmful emissions.
