Trailer tracking from CMS
A trailer tracking system has been added to the range of SupaTrak supplier CMS Global. It is called simply SupaTrak Trailer. The key to the system is the use of a solar-powered GPS tracking unit, which incorporates a high-capacity battery and removes the need for any external power source. The electronics are sealed in a waterproof enclosure and mounted on the trailer roof. The system allows trailers to be tracked in the same ways as vehicles via the SupaTrak Web-based tracking system. Tracking frequency is configurable, and location plots can be recorded as frequently as once a minute. For users concerned to conserve battery power, lower frequencies might be preferred. A useful feature built into the tracking unit is a tamper switch, which immediately sends out notification if the unit is removed. CMS's established vehicle tracking system is now used by a variety of operators including Royal Mail and Birmingham City Council.
