Gilbarco Veeder-Root tracks vans to improve pump service
In a move to improve responsiveness and ensure compliance with service-level commitments, Gilbarco Veeder-Root, the fuel pump and forecourt maintenance specialist, has added an online vehicle tracking system to the existing OpenUPTIME online service management system used to manage its 200 service vans. It has also integrated the chosen system, Fleetstar-Online from Cybit, with a dynamic routing and scheduling package from Sidewinder (now part of Oracle). The company says the new system will allow it to capture job status reports from engineers' handheld computers in real time, and match them with vehicle location information for accurate 'planned versus actual' reporting. 'It is essential that we have the instant visibility to react quickly, decisively and effectively,' says James Withey, UK operations director. Currently Gilbarco Veeder-Root's engineers make around four planned visits every day in addition to reactive maintenance jobs. Cybit has worked with Gilbarco to provide a bespoke display system so that every agent can have instant visibility of the fleet. The OpenUPTIME package is a product of Metrix bv, and is distributed in the UK by Prolog Systems. Gilbarco Veeder-Root is said to be the UK's largest supplier of forecourt equipment and retail solutions to both the retail and commercial sectors, and has a staff of around 400. It is part of the US-based Danaher Corporation.
