Phone-like handheld from NordicID
The Morphic, the first PDA-style handheld terminal from NordicID, takes a distinctive slant in terms of styling, using a spare keyboard layout with widely-spaced circular alphanumeric keys and a 2.2in quarter VGA screen of 320 by 240 pixels. The company reckons its compact, phone-like ergonomic design and intuitive user interface will win favour with users across a wide range of industries. The low weight of 200g including battery should also appeal. The Morphic includes both data collection and voice communication capability (the latter via local wireless networking) in its compact format, having a built-in microphone and speaker. Connectivity features include 802.11b/g and Bluetooth version 2.0. The processor is a 532MHz ARM unit, which is supported by 128MB of DDR RAM and 150MB of flash RAM. The operating system is Windows CE 6.0. For data capture these is a 1D scanner capable of 104 scans per second. It will also be upgradeable to RFID scanning 'with little further investment', the company says. All its keys are programmable. Environment protection up to IP54 level has been provided, and the unit has been drop-tested from 1.5 metres.
