Roadside warnings added to Navteq mapping
Roadside warnings have been added to the digital map data available from Navteq, and speed limit information has also been enhanced. The idea is to provide advance warning of potentially hazardous situations. The roadside data includes 21 sign types (examples are no overtaking, lane merge, railway crossing, bends, steep hills, winding roads and lateral winds). They are provided for major roads in 'most Western European countries' Navteq says, and more countries will be added. The 'posted speed limit' data is more extensive, Navteq says, covering all major roads in Western Europe, 18 Eastern Europe countries, the United States, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Also included in the map are selected secondary and arterial roads.
