Satnav comes as standard when you buy a Pearl
This is the BlackBerry Pearl 8110, part of a new range that has been launched in the UK on the Vodafone network, and what's interesting about it is that it has satellite navigation integrated into it, underlining the increasing ubiquity of this type of product in the mobile market.
The satnav relies on an integrated GPS chip, which is used by a built-in application called Vodafone Sat Nav (actually this is powered by the Telmap hosted navigation system). The application now includes 3D mapping as standard, and other features include instant access to live traffic alerts, and millions of points of interest.
Other features of the phone include a 2 megapixel camera with five-times digital zoom, enhanced flash, and the ability to capture video in two resolutions - 240 by 180 and 176 by 144 for sharing via MMS. The expansion memory slot supports microSD/SDHC cards.
The Pearl 8110 lacks BlackBerry's trademark full QWERTY keyboard, but BlackBerry's own distinctive SureType keyboard system now features word completion, easier editing of misspelled words and a built-in spell checker. The company also says the visual interface has been improved to make viewing messages and Web pages more visually appealing.
