Second-generation Duo-Touch tablet
The lightweight, rugged Duo-Touch tablet PC from General Dynamics Itronix has moved into its second generation with the launch of the Duo-Touch II, gaining improvements in display, processing power and security features. In terms of display, the Duo-Touch II gains the company's Dynavue laptop display technology, said to provide optimum viewing for outdoor work environments in direct sunlight, as well as indoors and in vehicles. The company claims that its technology eliminates the internal reflections that 'wash out' display clarity in other touchscreen displays. The Duo-Touch II's processor is an ultra-low voltage Intel Core Duo U2500 running at 1.2 GHz, with 2MB of L2 cache memory. It is available with up to 2048MB of DDR2 RAM. For security, the Duo-Touch II is available with an optional fingerprint scanner to ensure systems can only be used by authorised operators. Both an active digitiser and passive touchscreen modes are provided. The active digitiser allows for accurate signature capture and annotation, while the passive touchscreen mode can be used for simple navigation in Windows and other custom applications. Connectivity is impressive. Options include DGE/GPRS/UMTS /HSDPA /HSUPA, EV-DO, 802.11 a/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS, and the computer can support up to three RF modems plus GPS simultaneously. The maximum retail price is quoted as £2,114.
