Vocollect extends third-party hardware support
Voice recognition specialist Vocollect has pressed further with its programme of offering software solutions in conjunction with third-party hardware devices, following the lead taken by Voxware several years ago. Already Vocollect systems have been implemented on two Motorola (formerly Symbol) platforms, the MC9090 rugged mobile computer and the WT4000 series of wearable computers. Now its systems have been integrated with handheld computers from two more manufacturers - LXE and Psion Teklogix. In the LXE camp, Vocollect systems will now be available on MX7 handheld and HX2 wearable devices. As previously reported, Vocollect worked with Psion on the Workabout Pro multi-purpose data collection terminal, which has been rolled out to 630 staff working for retailer Wilkinson. Unlike Voxware, Vocollect has made no mention of dropping its own well-established hardware range. As chief executive Roger Byford puts it: 'For the end customer, it's all about high performance, choice and flexibility, and sometimes that means customers want versatile, multi-purpose devices to achieve their operational goals.' * Vocollect has launched a 'partner programme' in the UK, and VoiteQ is the first company here to be certified. This program is described as a first in the voice industry, and aims to ensure that voice partners are given appropriate knowledge, training and capabilities. VoiteQ maintains that the speed at which it achieved certification conveys its status at the forefront of the UK voice industry.
