Engineers replace Web-based tracking with server-based system
Whilst many vehicle tracking systems these days deliver their information over the Internet, not all do, and there can sometimes be appeal in opting for a solution that stores data on your own server. That was the reasoning that prompted civil engineering contractor Dyer & Butler to replace a Web-based tracking system with the C-Track server-based system. As vehicle and plant manager Philip Smith explains: 'Previous experience of Web-based solutions showed that it could take anything up to four hours to generate a report, so we wanted a system that could provide immediate access to fleet-related data.' He says the company chose C-Track because it provided the speed and flexibility to meet operational and reporting needs. The system is being installed in 130 vans operated by on-site engineers. The company says its prime objective is to achieve better management of mobile resources by gaining a clear picture of real-time and historical vehicle data, and maximising productivity and working hours. The system's reporting tool is also expected to allow the company to validate time-sheets to confirm overtime claims and ensure compliance with the Working Time Directive.
