A tracking service aimed specifically at plant and construction equipment has been launched by Masternaut. Its Asset Track system uses a covert tracking device installed in the equipment to transmit the precise location of the asset. Users can see exactly where their equipment is situated and whether or not it is in use, and the moment it moves out of a pre-defined area, the system raises the alarm and notifies the customer via email or text message.

Masternaut sees the system having particular appear for plant hire companies, which could use it to monitor and charge for pay-as-you-use services.

It says Asset Track has been engineered for easy installation, robustness and longevity, featuring a simple two-wire connection and integrated long-life back-up battery.
