DA integrates couriers' stock control with mobile management
DA integrates couriers' stock control with mobile management

Expanding from its focus on mobile logistics and data solutions, leading supplier DA Systems has developed a product that integrates transport management with stock manage-ment functions.

The name of it gives a strong clue to its emphasis; it's called Warehouse Management Transport System, or WMTS, and a key objective is to reduce the number of processes from request to delivery.

WTMS is aimed at courier customers who also undertake strategic spare parts supply and inventory management for companies. It automates the lifecycle for inbound and outbound strategic parts operations, stock checks and moves, as well as processing returned parts.

DA claims it is the first system that generates the delivery job at the point in the process when the stock is reserved, directly linking the outbound movement of stock with the actual courier movement.

WMTS uses wireless barcode scanners within the depot or warehouse, so staff can pick and pack stock within seconds of it being reserved. Stock management functions can be carried out by scanner or via the stock application, and serialised barcode labels are generated automatically for stock that is being checked in.

Stock types are then stored against both client and contract number, enhancing the management of clients with multiple accounts.

Greater integration of stock management with transport also improves customer service levels, says DA Systems. An Internet interface gives customers full visibility of their own stockholding, and allow them to request fulfilment of items in one simple process.

Customers can also use the Web site to access a comprehensive suite of reports – including a complete lifecycle of each stock item. The system also provides the means to add extra functionality such as electronic POD capture and vehicle tracking.

According to DA Systems' managing director, Dave Upton: 'Today's complex strategic parts and inventory management environments require visibility and control, not only within but also beyond the four walls of a warehouse.'

He adds: 'WMTS also allows users to modify business processes quickly to meet a specific customer need or optimise the management of strategic stock and assets throughout their lifecycle.'
