Hampshire trials advanced police coordination system
Hampshire Constabulary is trialling the new Co-Ordinator 7 fleet location management system from APD Communications in its Netley control room, near Southampton. This is an upgrade to the Co-Ordinator 6 version already in use there, offering various improved mapping features such as the ability to load multiple maps simultaneously. The object is to enable control room operators to provide better support to the 3,800 police officers and 500 special constables on the Isle of Wight. The deployment will allow operators to assign the most appropriate resource to an incident to improve efficiency and reduce officer response times. Benefits include preventing over-deployment of vehicles and officers at incident, and freeing more resources to increase visibility of officers in the community. Co-Ordinator 7 is also intended to provide the Hampshire Constabulary management team with comprehensive reporting such as details of where officers have been, vehicle speed, direction of travel and 'blue light' use.
