Kits for hosted wireless application development

If your software development team is building wireless applications, especially any that involve ZigBee local machine-to-machine networking, but they don't necessarily have all the skills or knowledge you might like them to have, Digi International could have the solution.

This M2M wireless specialist has released three new development kits based on what it calls its iDigi platform – a new system described as a Platform as a Service, or PaaS (picking up on the popularity of Software as a Service). The company says this makes it fast, easy and inexpensive to develop wireless applications.

The kits are said to include all the hardware, hosted software and services necessary to develop sustainable applications quickly and easily. Users have access to iDigi's free sandbox development environment and hosted software via a Web Services interface. Digi says this simplifies application development and speeds time to market.

There are several versions of the kit, including one called the iDigi X4 Starter Kit ZB. This aims to provide the hardware and software tools necessary to configure a ZigBee network through the iDigi platform.

Together they look like an appealing package to speed up M2M wireless development.
