Pay-as-you-go tracking launched by Quartix to beat recession
Quartix claims to be the first major telematics specialist to introduce a pay-as-you-go vehicle tracking. Users pay £19.50 per month, with the option to cancel after the first three months. There is also a one-off setup fee of £45 (or £95 including installation). If they cancel, they return the in-vehicle hardware. The development comes as stories circulate in the industry that lease finance for telematics systems has become harder to obtain because of the world recession, especially for small and medium-sized businesses. Quartix is presenting its pay-as-you-go option as a means of circumventing the problem. Quartix managing director Andy Walters says vehicle operators are reluctant to make multi-year commitments to tracking systems in a time of recession. 'Our market research found there is a real need for flexibility.' Quartix offers an Internet-based vehicle tracking system with a focus on service and price. More than 2,000 customers are said to be using the system in a wide variety of business sectors, and the total installed base is put at 20,000 vehicles.
