United Biscuits saves £200,000 by tracking – and here's how
![]() United Biscuits, the leading biscuit and snack foods manufacturer, says it is saving £200,000 per year through tracking its truck fleet. It is using the Masternaut Three X tracking solution. The company has broken the savings down into several broad categories. There has been a seven per cent improvement in fuel consumption, it says, saving £80,000 a year. More efficient fleet management has permitted a reduction in the number of trailers, saving £10,000 a year. Better management of contractors has saved £70,000 a year. And real-time planning has saved an estimated £40,000 a year. The Masternaut solution, which uses Microsoft Virtual Earth mapping, has also proved helpful in directing drivers to their destinations, and the company says this has helped it reduce lorry miles by three million over four years. The system has also decreased fleet emissions by almost 20 per cent through the use of better routes and improved driving technique; and driver safety has been enhanced.
