TomTom WORK and Software AG plan fleet management expansion
TomTom WORK, the fleet management division of the satnav specialist, has formed strategic partnership with Software AG to develop what the two companies describe as 'a comprehensive solution for intelligent and integrated fleet management'. TomTom WORK has taken pains in recent years to build up a separate identity for itself outside its parent company, targeting business clients and offering a combination of vehicle tracking and mobile fleet and workforce management. However, this agreement could propel it into an altogether bigger league. It says the aim is to create a fully integrated approach to fleet management. The deal will cover 'all business processes involved in order processing, and also incorporates unexpected incidents like accidents or breakdowns,' the two companies say. They add that their solutions will be geared particularly towards enterprises in which outside sales and service play a key role. Instrumental in brokering the partnership has been itCampus, a subsidiary of Software AG based in Leipzig, eastern Germany. ItCampus has worked with TomTom WORK in the past, helping to develop the interface design of TomTom WEBFLEET, the company's online solution for fleet and order management. Software AG acquired a majority stake in itCampus in April 2009. Software AG itself is said to be the world's largest independent provider of business infrastructure software, with 4,000 global enterprise customers.
