Wiseman tracks entire dairy fleet
Robert Wiseman Dairies

Robert Wiseman Dairies has completed the roll-out of a vehicle tracking and fleet management system to all 900 vehicles in its fleet, and says it is on target to reduce carbon emissions by 7 per cent, or 5,000 tonnes a year.

The company is using Isotrak's Active Transport Management System. Originally it planned to track trailers, but then it switched to tracking vehicles, and mounted a proof-of-concept exercise involving 120 vehicles working from three locations.

During this phase it ran Isotrak's Transport Efficiency Analysis process, and found that the sample vehicles were achieving a 7 per cent carbon reduction, which equated to 231 tonnes of CO2 in three months to the end of March 2009.

The TEA results also indicated potential fuel savings of 5 per cent, assuming the company implemented a full system including the optional driver style monitoring module (which draws on CANbus engine telematics data).

The system has been used to monitor and reinforce best-practice SAFED (safe and fuel efficient driving) driver training across the fleet.

Kirsty Cooper, logistics manager of Robert Wiseman Dairies, commends Isotrak's business-focused offering and 'real commitment to get us up, running and supported'.

Using the insights ATMS provides, the company says it expects to develop an increasingly sophisticated suite of key performance indicators. It is also now turning back to the original plan to track trailers, taking the view that there are significant benefits waiting to be realised through better utilisation of the trailer fleet.
