Romec rates road safety as top priority as it tracks 1,000 vehicles
![]() Romec, a leading UK-based facilities management company, has equipped a thousand vehicles in its engineering services operation with a satellite-based vehicle tracking system from Masternaut Three X, and is putting emphasis on the gains in road safety as one of the key benefits of the system. The company reports that the system has already reduced speeding by 82 per cent and fines by 26 per cent, and says there has also been a 28 per cent reduction in road traffic accidents involving Romec staff. The implementation has attracted plaudits from road safety charity Brake, whose Katie Shephard says: 'Brake is delighted that Romec and Masternaut Three X are working together to reduce crashes and improve driving behaviour. Romec should be commended for prioritising the safety of their drivers and investing in road safety.' The system provides tracking of all engineers. Lee Russell, IS business partner at Romec, says this will allow the company to provide 24-hour accountability. There is also an operational gain. The Web-based Masternaut system gives Romec's engineering services team at Stockport a live view of its vehicles and drivers, allowing real-time monitoring of actual progress against work schedules.
