Wincanton chooses Microlise system for M&S home deliveries
![]() Logistics group Wincanton has rolled out a telematics-based fleet management and proof of delivery system from Microlise on a two-man home delivery contract it has won with Marks & Spencer. The system includes Motorola handheld devices running Microlise's proof of delivery software, and integrated Co-pilot 8 satellite navigation. At each customer address, the driver can scan delivered or collected items and ask the customer to sign for the delivery on the mobile data terminal. Any delivery issues are captured as they occur and communicated to the back-office system in real time, using standard 'reason codes'. If required, a digital image of any problem can be captured using the device's built-in camera. The captured data is transmitted back via GPRS, and is then processed by Microlise's back-office software before being fed out to various management information and customer service systems. The system can also manage various additional tasks such as vehicle inspections.
