18 June 2012 Smarter, slimmer speech terminal from topVOX TopVOX, the speech recognition specialist, has announced an upgraded version of its own topVOX speech terminal, the Voxter Elite Edition. It is a Microsoft Windows CE-based device (running version 6.0), though like other voice recognition hardware, it has no standard screen interface. It has a fast 800MHz processor, 256 MB RAM and 512 MB flash memory. Features of special appeal in this new version include what the company says is a revolutionary design feature – one-button operation (the button is merely the on/off switch). All other functions are controlled by voice, including volume and speed control. Also potentially appealing are its low weight of just 250g, small size of just 103 by 65 by 44 mm and extended battery performance. TopVOX says its 5,000 mAh lithium-ion battery will run for a full 12-hour shift.
Data transmission is by wireless network or Bluetooth. The unit has a high IP rating of IP67, meaning it is dustproof and waterproof. It is designed to operate at temperatures of between minus 30 deg C and plus 45 deg C. © Ivory Square Publications Ltd
